#WHY Abilene Community Guide A Big Love In A Small Town

Top 10 Reasons to Make Abilene Your New Hometown

Outside of the beautiful and varied homes for sale in Abilene, Texas, there are many reasons why this metropolitan area and local suburbs are a great place to call home. If you’re considering buying a new build home or house for sale near Abilene, TX, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised to get acquainted with the outstanding family, cultural and West Texas hospitality the area has to offer.

Here are my top 10 reasons you should consider investing in Abilene realty and making this great city your new home.

#1: Hospitality Of Course

There is just something about Abilene that lures people in. People seem to greet you with a smile on their face. It’s just the way we were raised. I can’t tell you how many times I have gone through the Starbuck’s line only to find that the car in front of me paid my bill! We believe in pay it forward!

#2: Family Activities

Try the Drive In…

Movie lovers take a drive to their favorite seat in the great outdoors! Enjoy the simple pleasures of tuning your radio station in the comfort of your own vehicle, kicking back and enjoying the big screen. Don’t miss the Old Time Concession Stand with funnel cakes, cotton candy, hot dogs, and more!

Hear the Call of the Wild at the Abilene Zoo…
The Zoo has more than 1,000 animals to see! Catch a ride on the train, feed the giraffes, or try the paddle boats with the swans!

See the world from a standup paddle board at Fort Phantom lake or spend an evening of outdoor fun at Abilene Christian University’s summer “Movies on the Hill”.

Family fun is nearly limitless in Abilene! (I’ll keep you posted on the annual events so you don’t miss anything!)

#3: Low Cost of Living

The cost of living in Abilene is 9% lower than the Texas average and 15% lower than the national average! That means more money in your pocket!

#4: Education Opportunities

If you are looking for higher learning opportunities look no farther. We have a plethora of colleges and universities including:

  • Abilene Christian University
  • Hardin Simmons University
  • McMurry University
  • Texas Tech University of Health Sciences
  • Texas State Technical College
  • Cisco College
  • Hendricks Radiology and Nursing

Another plus…an abundance of college kids in one town means an abundance of babysitters!

#5: Community

We are all in this together. Abilene thrives on community involvement. From the art walk every second Thursday of the Month or the annual Cajun Fest held by Abilene Education Foundation, to the Kawanis Annual Pancake Dinner, or the Dancing with The Abilene Stars fundraiser for Hendrick Home for Children you can count on Abilene to support its own. (I was honored to be a Dancer in 2018 and loved every minute of it) https://abilenescene.com/dancing-abilene-stars-2018/

#6: Small Town Feel

Explore and discover why Abilene is the place for you!

We may be growing in size but Abilene’s small town feel sets it apart from other cities. Maybe it’s the sense of safety or family-friendliness. Maybe it’s the down to earth laid back culture or the unique neighborhoods and districts full of identity and culture. We treasure and support our local business and believe that individuals can act on their ideas, contribute, and make a difference in our community.

#7 Thrilling Downtown Amenities & Events

Anyone walking through downtown Abilene will experience the area’s modern, hip vibe masterfully mixed with cobblestone streets and century old buildings that evoke memories from the past.

From historic attractions to the best meals in town, make sure you make a point to cross everything off the list…. (I would hate for you to miss out!)

#8: Quick Commutes

My husband laughs at me when I say I have to drive all the way across town! (He’s from Dallas) Truthfully that takes me 10 minutes. You can get to nearly anyplace in Abilene in 10 minutes. Traffic jams are pretty much non-existent unless it’s the day before Christmas or you are headed to the football stadium on a Friday night.

#9: Military Friendly

I feel the need… the need for speed! For all you Top Gun fans out there it is commonplace to see the sights and sounds of jet engines roaring through the Abilene skies. My son still talks about the Dyess Air Show and can hardly wait for the next one!

Our goal in working with military families on their relocation is to allow you to focus on what matters most – your family’s peace of mind and sense of sanctuary. Ann Carr Realtors®️ knowledge of local school districts, towns and individual neighborhoods will help you find a new home you’ll love and in close proximity to the Dyess Air Force Base.

#10: Weather

Aside from the Snow Apocalypse of 2021 where the entire state of Texas was under a winter storm warning, Abilene typically has short winters leaving plenty of time for sunny outdoor weather.

In more technical terms our average high is around 95 and our average low is around 32. We get really excited by a snow day… and if there happens to be ice we pretty much shut down the city. We do not drive well on ice. It’s not our fault… we just rarely get an opportunity to practice.

As you can see, Abilene is near and dear to my heart. From the people to the vibrant communities, I’m so proud to call Abilene my home. ACR- Ann Carr Realtors® would be thrilled to introduce you to this special place and help you get settled in your dream piece of real estate in Abilene, TX.
